Experience Plantation Life at Varner-Hogg Plantation

September 7th, 2011

Everyone remembers hearing about how in history, there were plantations. In Texas, you can experience what it would be like if you were here many years ago. At Varner-Hogg Plantation, you can experience plantation life at its best. Let us give you an idea about all the things you can do and give you a bit of its history.

This plantation was owned by three different men. They were Martin Varner, Columbus Patton, and James S. Hogg. They did a lot of things on this plantation from drilling oil to raising sugarcane. This was then donated to the state in 1957 to allow you to travel this 66 acre land. The daughter of Mr. Hogg donated this.

Now, you can see the mansion that was built by slaves and learn about the history and all the stories of the 19th and 20th century by going on one of the guided tours. There are daily tours for those of you who are just doing some vacationing. There are also group tours and school tours. This is one thing the whole family can do. If you are a history buff, allow history to guide you through this plantation and learn about what used to be.
